Questions regarding WEDA’S Prospect Marketing Programs.

What does WEDA do?

WEDA, the World Economic Development Alliance, is a full service economic development consulting firm. From marketing to lead generation, print media to online advertising, no other company can offer you the experience and depth of understanding that WEDA can.

Is WEDA a lead generating company?

Yes, but WEDA is much more than that. Everything WEDA does is designed to increase the visibility of each of our members and their unique offerings.

Does WEDA charge the companies for their services?

No. That is what makes WEDA unique. We don’t charge the projects anything, ever. That means that the company gets to keep all of their incentive monies, does not pay WEDA a retainer, and is never charged anything by WEDA ever. All of WEDA’s financial support comes from supplying our members the finest services.

Does WEDA guarantee to land a company in my area?

No. Anyone who makes a guarantee like that is lying. There is no way to guarantee that a company will come to your area, until they move the first box into a building. WEDA will guarantee that we will do everything humanly possible to get a company to land in your area. Period.

Can I just get WEDA’s leads and not the Trade Show package?

Yes. There are several possible levels of membership. The Prospector program provides you with all of WEDA’s leads each year, up to 104 of them. The Trade Show Program allows your community to be represented at 8 or more trade shows and to attend 3 of them. The Elite Program provides your community with both! It is also possible to use WEDA’s expertise without becoming a WEDA member. If your community needs a website or a video, WEDA can do that. If you need print marketing materials or a social media campaign designed for you, simply contact us and we will get you set up.

I am a one person office. What can WEDA do for me?

WEDA can be your right hand, the other person in your office. From handling all of your daily marketing to submitting your area on projects, WEDA can take care of things while you are taking care of working directly with potential projects.

We’re already really busy. I don’t think we need WEDA.

Now is the time to fill the pipeline and use your current success to help market your area. “Strike while the iron is hot.” Rather than being concerned with WEDA’s lead programs, look at the marketing and trade show packages that will help you fill the pipeline with more project for a year or two from now. How many projects do you engage with each year?

We don’t set a project goal, we only work with the most qualified project leads

What is considered a qualified project?

A qualified project must meet the following minimum criteria.

• The project must be creating at least 10 new jobs.
• The project must be looking for at least 10,000 sq. ft. of space.
• The project must be making their site location decision within 24 months.
• The project must be looking at a new location that is more than 100 miles from their current location.

Are Project Alerts 100% Qualified?

ABSOLUTELY.  Our Projects come to us from a variety of sources.  These include Trade Shows, Internet, Personal Calls from our call center, Targeted Emails, Industry Surveys, Networking Events, and referrals.  Every lead is directed to our Lead Qualification Manager who follows up and further researches each and every lead to ensure it passes our minimum criteria.  Once it is qualified as a “Live Site Location Search” then it is passed along to our members for submission consideration.  These Projects can be at different stages with WEDA.

WEDA PARTNER: These are Projects that are actively engaged with us but are also using a site consultant or doing some of their research on their own.

WEDA LIVE PROJECT: These are projects we have found to be doing their Site Location Searches but are using other sources exclusively.  These projects are sometimes non-responsive to our team and therefore are typically handed off to members that want to engage with them directly.

What is the average size of space needed by the projects?

The sweet spot for searches ranges from 50,000 to 75,000 square feet of space.  We have helped projects land that are as low as 10,000 and upwards of 1,000,000 square. ft.

Do the projects typically want to lease or build to suit?

Typically 90% of our projects start their searches wanting to Lease.

What is the average Capital Investment made by the projects?

The average capital investment of a projects is $7,000,000.  We have had projects that have made upwards of $750 million in investment and a low of $1.2 million.

What is the average time frame of a project for making their decision?

The average time frame for making a final site location decision is 15 months.  Time frames have been as long as 24 months and as short as 6 months.

How many projects on average land each year?

67% of projects each year land or finalize their Site-Location decisions.  In 2013, 64 of 112 of our projects made announcements.  A total of 7,524 new jobs were created and 15.3 million square feet were secured. See full report here.

What kind of ROI can I expect from participating in WEDA's Prospect Generation Marketing Program?

The average ROI on an investment of the WEDA ELITE Program is $26,770 on an $8,500 investment.  That is only considering the marketing, press releases, trade show savings, social media posts, micro-sites and project alerts.  If one lands a location within their first year of WEDA then the ROI is over 800% return.  Most clients realize that if they just land one project within 10 years they will have recouped every penny invested into the program (not counting the year-to-year benefit of marketing and exposure received).

What size communities participate with WEDA?

We have communities of all different sizes.  Communities with as low as 10,000 population to large regional groups with over 5 million in population.

Can WEDA help with Retail?

Yes! WEDA’s Retail Network works with over 7,000 retailers.  Each retailer reports their desired locations they want to open along with preferred demographics.  Clients can generate reports on specified criteria that will provide them with the names and contacts of who they want to attract and who they should contact.  Clients can use a self-served platform or hire us to mange a complex campaign to do all the marketing for attraction.
